Renew – Day 2: Repent

Today, we will meditate on Genesis 6:13–14:

And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.

we can understand the two important truths in the first part of verse 13.

First, whatever humanity is doing comes before God. There is no way to hide any action or event from Him. At times, we may ignore, forget, or fail to recognize the seriousness of our actions, but nothing escapes God’s sight.

Second, God evaluates those actions according to how much they have filled the earth. As James explains, when sin reaches its full measure, it leads to death:

"But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death." — James 1:14–15

We have free will, and we can desire many things. That same will and desire can also be directed toward repentance and turning back to God. Along with confession have to repentance, and turn from the old nature; it calls for turning away from sinful actions. When we repent, we must also abandon the sin we confess, so that our sins may be wiped away before God.

Jesus Himself said:

““I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” — Luke 13:5

Let us take a moment to examine our lives, identify the things we need to get rid of, and act upon them in obedience and repentance.
